4th Uttoxeter Brownies on Holiday – 30 May to 1 June 2008

After a worrying period of wind and rain over the half term week, a beautiful weekend finally awaited us at Beaudesert. We normally use Owl’s Nest but thought we’d try out Chantrey House for a change. Ten girls finally joined us for the weekend which was very enjoyable and full of fun.

The theme for the weekend was Spring and the girls were split into two groups – Cygnets and Ducklings. Most of our activities were focussed around this theme with the girls planting sunflower and cress seeds, colouring pictures and filling out crosswords and quizzes around Spring.

We went for a long walk through the woods and had a picnic down by the pond. We wondered at the beautiful scenery, had fun running around the woods, climbed trees and all knew what a “rhododendron” was by the end of the weekend.

Squirrels and jays were regular visitors to Chantrey and we had a great time “having fun outdoors”. We had a treasure hunt around Chantrey and a quiz about famous people, places and animals. The girls entertained us one evening producing two plays around the theme of “Spring”.

The girls all joined in with the cooking, laying the tables, cleaning and tidying up throughout the weekend and earned their Brownie Holiday badge having completed their diaries and discussed the weekend with their fellow Brownies.

Brown Owl enjoyed a massage at the end of the weekend from the newly formed “Brownie Beauty Business” and all the girls joined in with the cleaning and tidying up on Sunday afternoon before displaying all their work from the weekend to the parents who collected them.
