What international opportunities are available?See also Noticeboard for breaking news. There are international opportunities available for all ages both in the UK and abroad. The opportunities range from an international camp in this country to attending a GOLD project (Guiding Overseas Linked with Development) aimed at raising awareness of HIV/AIDS awareness in Honduras and anything in-between - the list is endless and world is your oyster. Experiences can range from one or two weeks to longer term volunteering or gap year opportunities. For more information about the different opportunities available, please refer to the following pages on the Girlguiding UK website link Please refer to trip reports to see what Staffordshire Girlguiding members have done in the past - we hope you feel inspired to do something yourself after you have read about their amazing experiences. County Selection and International Opportunities for 2010/2011Eighteen girls attended the County International Selection Weekend at Stockton Brook Scout and Guide Headquarters on 26-27 September 2009. The weekend included outdoor cooking, pioneering, a ready, steady cook challenge, kayaking, a campfire, hearing about other people's international experiences, being woken up to bake muffins and scotch pancakes at midnight and caring for an "international friend" (an egg) for the weekend (unfortunately most of them did not make it in tact to the Sunday afternoon!). Everyone agreed that the weekend had been great fun and many new friendships across the County have been made. See the pictures in the Gallery. How do I get selected for County or Region trips?:Girls:Every year, Divisions will hold their own selection events that you can choose to attend. Some people will then be chosen to be put forward to the County selection event. If you fancy a challenge and would like to travel in Guiding, why don't you come along to the selection weekend in 2010? You will need to complete an IN form and Staffordshire international opportunity form (link to IN form, Staffordshire international opportunity form and outline of signing off process). For further information, please contact your Division International Adviser. Leaders:We also need leaders to lead and assist with our County trips and to go forward for leaders selection at Region. See what the Jailbreak 2008 leaders thought about the experience! If you are interested in being put forward for leader selection for future years, please speak to your Division International Adviser. Division, District, Unit and individual Trips:Divisions, Districts, Units and individuals organise and plan their own trips. For useful information and hints and tips, please refer to the information for leaders section of this website (link). Your Division International Adviser will also be able to help you with any queries that you have and give you advice if you need it.
