Please note the closing date - 31st Dec 2008!

Greetings from Sangam!

I am writing to invite participation from members of your National organisation to apply to volunteer at our World Centre. Applications for next year will close on 31 December and volunteers will be appointed in early February 2009 for the international event season from June 2009 to March 2010.

Programme Volunteer positions are available from June - September and October to March. Sangam provides financial support for travelling to India to take up the position, plus full room and board, uniforms and a small monthly allowance. Appropriate forms are attached here and here. More information is available on our website or by contacting the Programme Manager Eszter Toth at pm@sangamworldcentre.org.

Imagine volunteering in a world centre in 2010 - WAGGGS Centenary! An amazing experience! Please spread this message far and wide to give as many young women as possible the opportunity of knowing about this unique experience.

Can you imagine:

  •  Living in one of the most vibrantly developing cities in India and
  •  Discovering the kaleidoscope of colours, sounds, smells and tastes of this diverse country?
  •  Waking up to the sounds of the early morning Call to Prayer in the neighborhood next to Sangam?
  •  Making friends with Guides and Scouts from around the world?
  •  Helping develop and run programmes and sessions for participants?

Discover your potential! VOLUNTEER at Sangam World Centre Applications for 2009-2010

County Selection and International Opportunities for 2009

For 2009, we are organising three County international trips:

  •  A group of 13 and 14 year olds will be going to Windsor International Guide and Scout camp (WINGS 09) from 1-8 August 2009
  •  A group of 14 and 15 years olds will be going on a JEKA adventure holiday in Europe during the summer holidays.
  •  A group of 16-22 year olds will be going to Roverway in Iceland from 20-28 July 2009.

The Division representatives for the two trips for the younger age groups are being selected at Division level.

Sixteen girls aged 16-22 attended the County International Selection Weekend at Brook House, Burton on 27-28 September 2008. The weekend included a mystery dinner, hearing about other people's international experiences, a blindfolded trial around Burton, being woken up to bake muffins and scotch pancakes at midnight, sharing swap craft ideas and caring for an "international friend" (an egg) for the weekend (unfortunately some of them did not make it in tact to the Sunday afternoon!). Everyone agreed that the weekend had been great fun and many new friendships across the County have been made. See the pictures in the Gallery.

If you fancy a challenge and would like to travel in Guiding, why don't you come along to the selection weekend in 2009?

Please contact your Division International Adviser for more information.

We are also looking for leaders to lead and assist with our County trips and to go forward for leaders selection at Region. The County leaders selection evening took place on 21 October 2008. Leaders and Assistant Leaders have now been selected for the County groups for 2009 and nominations have been put forward for Region selection. If you are interested in being put forward for leader selection for future years, please speak to your Division International Adviser. See what the Jailbreak 2008 leaders thought about the experience!

The Region leaders selection day was on 8th November 2008 at Region HQ. If you are interested for next year please let Jo know.
