Waterhouses Rainbows

After a break of 5 years Waterhouses Rainbows re-opened in May this year. The photograph shows the Rainbows after their Promise ceremony – all in their brand new uniform and showing off their shiny, new Promise badges.
Rainbow leader Ann Mundy said “ When I took over as District Commissioner for Churnet Valley one of my aims was to bring Girlguiding back to Waterhouses, the village where I live. We used to have a Rainbows, Brownies and Guide Unit in the village, but sadly, one by one they had closed due to loss of leaders. We only had one Rainbow unit in the District so I felt this was the greatest need. After a few enquiries I was very lucky to find a mum, Vickie, who was willing to help and train as a leader. Also, Helen, who working on her ALQ with our Brownie unit in Ipstones volunteered to come to help during her University holidays and we are ably supported by Rachel, 14, as Pack Leader. Vickie and Helen took their promise at the same time as the Rainbows and we had a splendid Promise party with sandwiches, cakes and lots of fun and games”.
The unit now has 13 girls who are thoroughly enjoying their Girlguiding experience. They attended the recent Robin Hood day at Trentham and are currently doing activities they have chosen for their first Roundabout badge.
