Go For It International!

Girls on the Baden-Powell Challenge Adventure Weekend held at Hixon on September 3 and 4 designed their very own Go For It! for units to enjoy. Simply choose activities from the following sections, all based on Senior Section Octant topics.

Independent Living

* Go on a camping trip with your unit but be independent - look after yourself, make your own food and even try a meal from another country!
* Compare sanitation in this country to that of a Third World country. Make a list of things you take for granted.

Community Action

* Think about sustainability within your community. How far away from water are you?
* Try out volunteering in your community - either in a charity shop, a home for the elderly or an environmental project
* Raise some money towards community action. Give half to a local charity and half to a Third World community
* Life in the Third World can be very hard with many people building their own homes. Build a small scale house out of natural materials.

Creativity

* Make a papier mache model of a famous international landmark
* Organise an international evening based on the four world centres
* Make a chain of paper dolls and decorate them with Guide uniforms from around the world
* Make a dessert from a different country

Out of Doors

Choose a country which has a Guiding World Centre and do the following:
* Research transport in your chosen country
* Learn something about the landscape - which is the highest mountain, lowest point, longest river etc
* Find out about foods from your chosen country

Personal Values

* Compare British attitudes to women to the attitudes in other countries and cultures
* Find out some facts about eating disorders and prepare a presentation for your unit
* Make a poster of the media's portrayal of the 'perfect' woman.

Healthy Lifestyles

* Make a healthy international dish
* Research and play a game from a different culture or country
* Make a sculpture or picture out of fruit
* Make up a new game for your unit to play
