Waterhouses Brownies to the rescue!

Waterhouses Brownies were enjoying their first adventure on bell boats at our water activities base at  Manor Park, Kings Bromley when they were involved in a dramatic rescue.  At the far end of the lake they heard the distress calls of a family who were drifting helplessly having lost the centreboard in their dinghy.  Under the competent supervision of their trainer, Annette, the  Brownies paddled over, threw a line and secured the dinghy to their boat. One of the boat’s occupants, Tom, aged 10,  decided he would be better off in the bell boat with the Brownies so he climbed aboard to help man the paddles.  Despite a strong headwind the Brownies, their 2 leaders and Tom managed to tow the boat and its occupants back to where it could be seen by the lifeguards.  Snowy Owl, Tracey Mycock said “  I was so proud of the girls.  The wind was really strong and my arms, shoulders and back  were all aching but the girls just kept on paddling.  We couldn’t stop for a little rest because the wind was so strong it would have just blown us back the way we’d come.  We all sang Row ,Row, Row the boat to keep us going!”  Brown Owl, Ann Mundy said, “It took us about half an hour of furious paddling to tow the boat to somewhere that we could be seen.  I thought we’d never get there!  But, despite the drama, the Brownies had a wonderful time on the water and we will definitely be going again next year.  A big thank you to Margaret Smith and Annette for making it possible for us to enjoy this activity”.  And a big “ Well done” to Brownies  Freya, Lola, Ruth, Anna, Alice, Alice, Molly, Angelina and Mille, who certainly did their Good Turn that day!
